Premiere
Film

The plot of this film places us in the screening room of a cinema. The producer and director are there for the premiere of a film they’ve made. The work is so niche and auteur-driven as to be practically unwatchable, and the cinema is nearly empty as viewers continue to leave. They have to admit that it’s not a premiere, but a failure. The producer decides to level with the director about the kind of films that ought to be made in Russia.

The Mephistophelian producer is played by Anatoly Bely and the director by Dmitry Bogdan, who ran around in a Pioneer tie in the cult classic Shapito Show and shouted pseudo-Soviet phrases like “Pioneers! Never sleep and never eat!”

The premiere of “Premiere” took place in the short film competition at Kinotavr 2016. It was later shown at a series of other festivals: Beginning 2017, SHNIT Film Festival 2016, Ural Russian Film festival 2017, BitKonik Film Festival 2016 and Pacific Meridian Film Festival 2016.
